When George Floyd tragically lost his life in such a horrific way, it resonated with a wave of support worldwide. Stop killing (our) black people. The Black Lives Matter protest was meant to be a peaceful march and demonstration to deliver a powerful message in a quest to stop police brutality and systematic racism.
The racial tension and intensity levels were so fuelled on the day of George Floyd’s death, that mini riots occurred in Minneapolis, police cars were vandalised and graffiti was scrawled on the outside walls of the police station, the following day it was set alight and all police officers had to evacuate the building whilst the thousands of people who gathered outside protested against racism and wanting justice for George Floyd.

Protests were held two days later in Memphis, Los Angeles but in Oregon Portland thousands of protesters chanted: “I Can’t Breathe” as thousands of protesters lie in the road to make their point known, whilst other cities adopted that method also.
Black Lives Matter Protest / Anti-Racism
The Black Lives Matter: Anti Racism Protest was a positive and powerfully driven moment, standing up for the cause that Black Lives Matter, anti racism and justice for George Floyd, whilst thousands marched up the streets chanting and yelling: ‘No Justice No Peace‘ and ‘Black Lives Matter‘ in Washington DC, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and several other cities in the US, and worldwide.
In Houston Texas was one of the largest, it being George Floyd’s hometown, tens of thousands of protesters gathered on the streets to pay their respects.
In Belgium a monument dedicated to King Leopold II who presided over mass killings in Congo, the word ‘shame’ was graffitied on it.
In Bristol A statue of 17th trader Edward Colston was demolished by demonstrators.
In London, France and Rome Italy a huge amount of protesters lead protests as they marched to choruses of chants: ‘No Justice No Peace‘ and ‘Black Lives Matter’
In Australia their Anti-Racism protests attracted tens of thousands of protesters supporting ‘Black Lives Matter’
There were many people who didn’t support the cause but still attended and were involved in destructive episodes of mini rioting, looting and violence, several people have been injured by being pepper stayed and shot with rubber pellets by the police, this all occurred amongst the peaceful protesters.
Implementing Changes And Future Plans
An Interim Agreement and Minneapolis City Council Members have spoken up about dismantling the department to make significant changes.
The State Human Rights Department will run a Civil Rights Investigation to review the departments records, it will be a thorough internal check if discrimination has occurred against people of colour.
Racism This Can’t Keep Happening The Time Is Now To Make A Change Because Enough really is Enough… Black Lives Matter!!!
Racism is such a strong topic, that many people don’t express their views publicly but we have to respect that.

Derek Chauvin was Convicted of The Murder of George Floyd
Derek Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd on 25th June 2021. Chauvin denied charges of second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree murder, but the ruling stands at a unanimous decision, and guilty on all counts.
Chauvin faces 22 and a half years in prison, but if aggravating factors are later determined by the prosecutors, it could lead the judge to sentence Chauvin to a maximum of 40 years.
There were very emotional scenes of distress, screams and applauds where George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis which has now been named George Floyd Square, and outside the court where chants of “All Three Counts” and “George Floyd” it was an emotional and tearful moment with comfort hugs all round, whilst other screamed over the anguish of what has been a build up leading to Chauvin’s conviction.
